Meet Stacy.
One of the most fun and interesting thing about working with discarded materials is figuring out where each piece of trash will fit and how I can achieve the right shape with the materials I have.
Stacy is one of my bigger art pieces I have made and is comprised of scrap metal and a tiny bit of sheet steel.
.
what was the idee behind it?
Many of my favorite art ideas comes from the materials themselves. It was no different for Stacy. At my metal working job I was at some point surrounded by a lot of scrap metal. I never like it when good materials are being thrown away, so I decided to make a statue of a human out of it, but then the question arose: what pose and how will the human look.
During one of my lunch breaks I saw someone drop their phone and break their screen. And that was when inspiration struck. I was inspired by the statue: The Thinker, but I wanted to give my own twist on it.
The Thinker is a marble statue and my materials were scrap metal and a bit of sheet steel. So I went the other direction. I made a lady in the pose of The Thinker but, instead of thinking about something she would just look at her broken phone in utter disappointment.
A fun modern twist on a classic.
